RSC Perfect is Awesome! My fresh vanilla playthrough...

Things are progressing well for me in the [now quiet] Kingdom of Misthalin. After several years away from the world of RSC in its various forms, I am now enjoying the authentic, original RSC experience as it was long ago.
Everything is as it should be without the wider distractions of P2P content, or worse - custom content.
Having picked up on this server a couple weeks ago, I chose it because of the truly vanilla gameplay coupled with the 4x XP rate. Grinding out at 1x XP is not something I'm keen to do again at this stage in life. But 4x is a nice balance of commitment and practicality.
I have been rediscovering the simple life of early-game content: relying almost solely on natural resources, NPC's, and shops. I've seen an occasional fellow adventurer on, but not often. It's enjoyable to go back to the peaceful skilling experience, unbothered by the clamor of PKing and player drama.
So far I've leveled some combat and a mix of various skills, with plans to accomplish some questing soon: the goals being to defeat the mighty Elvarg in single combat and achieve reasonable levels in most skills. These goals allow me to achieve a finishable "playthrough" of the game in which there is an ending point, unlike the typical Runescape experience.
A newly acquired set of Adamantite armor and matching battle axe is helping me stay safe against hordes of monsters. Now I'm planning to take on some Moss Giants next with the hopes of some interesting drops. Moss Giants are scary again, like they once were. And don't get me started on Lesser Demons!
But hey, THANKS for putting together a great server and making it available to us!

Well after my post it seems the forums have blown up a little bit (SPAM, etc.). Hope we can get that sorted.
Still going full steam on my character. Managed to acquire a black kite shield to round out my mid-game defense package, and am starting on some questing! Organically, without depending on guides.
I love the nostalgic, hokey feel of these old quests, although I've always tended to begrudge them as trivial compared to the rest of the game. They always felt so far removed from the prevailing RSC meta, yet in the context of this server they make much more sense.
Going to try to get my brother to help me with a couple of quests that need partners, as he also started an account.
Good stuff!

Well, I finally completed enough quests to gain entrance to the Champions Guild! What a trip! And whoa, the brilliant sight of that runite inventory at Scavvo's Rune Shop is something else to behold after such a long dearth of shiny blue metal (isn't cyan everyone's favorite color?).
Now comes the question of how I am going to afford all that new gear. Fortunately, after some small dedication to crafting and smithing, I acquired enough coins to purchase my very own rune long sword, which I now wield with pride.
It's fascinating to rediscover old ways of accomplishing skilling training, before so many quick aids and guilds for skilling were added to the game. Crafting is a unique challenge, but I've been finding success mining silver near Al-Kharid and making holy symbols at the furnace in town. Even with the absence of the gem trading stand, the XP rate is acceptable, and probably without equal in this version of RSC.
There should be more silver rocks at the Southwest Varrock mine (3), but they haven't yet been added to the game. And, the rate of acquiring uncut gems from mining rocks seems to be lower than I remember. At a later point in RSC history, the rate of gems from rocks was increased. I'm glad I don't have to "use" my pickaxe with the rock every time I mine, though.
A little bit of power fishing/cooking in Lumbridge was also entertained. I am still trying to determine if the elusive 26 fish can be cooked on a single fire – so far I have only been able to cook 25 before my aspiration is reduced to ash. Perhaps with careful metronomic precision it can be achieved.
The lack of fatigue/sleeping bags is (perhaps ironically) refreshing. I remember fondly the days before that update was introduced in Runescape.

I found that edgeville dungeon with the brass key is oddly good for crafting. It's obviously dead content in later versions of the game.
The rate for getting gems is the same as the final version, since the pre-fatigue rates of getting gems has been lost to time.

Ah. The flow of gems may seem slower without the batching from mining with a rune pickaxe. Recently I've acquired more gems as I surpassed level 60 mining and began to focus on iron/coal instead of silver. And, as the goal of 50 crafting has been achieved, and new amulets of strength have been forged, I can now say the crafting adventure has been put to rest for a time.
Edge dungeon is a nostalgic mining spot with good variety. In Classic, I remember it seemed like unobtainable ore due to the aggressive monsters at low levels.
Finished powerfishing through about 1500 salmon and trout and ye ole' lumber bridge. Now I can catch, clean and cook some proper swordfish to take into battle! Rune platemail legs have been purchased from the proceeds of my steel-smithing ventures. Soon I will try my luck against the greater demons in search of an equal helmet.

Well, things continue off and on. It's been awhile but I'm still grinding here and there. As a proud member Champions Guild, the questing has nearly drawing to a close. I have yet to embark on the vaunted Dragon Slayer quest, but will do so when I am ready to 'complete' the game. I think I will skip Prince Ali's Rescue, as that never was a favorite of mine, and it doesn't seem necessary now that I've gotten 32 quest points. Shield of Arrav may be in the cards later if I can sync up to do it with my brother. I did "cheat" though by bringing in an alternate account to help distract Sir Vyvin while I searched his cupboard in The Knight's Sword Quest.
Thanks to some exciting nuggets I picked up from
The Adventures of Rin I have both improved my money-making efficiency (making and selling gold necklaces Karamja-->Falador-->Port Sarim), and my ranged-training efficiency (Count Draynor works for ranged, wow!) – the goals being to afford rune platemail armor when the time comes, and to be able to defeat enough Greater Demons to acquire a rune large helmet.
So far I am coming up on 400 kills at Greaters with nothing but a few addy legs, and mith kites – exciting, but not what I need! The RSC Wiki estimates the rarity for all these items as ~1/128, so if you add them all up I guess I'm doing pretty well. But the hunt continues! The mithril kite shield is helpful for training combat, though, alongside my shiny rune long sword (oooooh).
After my next batch of gold necklaces I've got to head back to the docks for more swordfish and tuna to fuel my deep wilderness expeditions.

Current stats are as follows:
75 Combat level (nice even "odd" number)
61 Hits (not training melee at all)
69 Ranged (4 Greater Demons away from 70!)
44 Prayer (will revisit the Giants cave if needed)
72 Magic (mix of high alchemy + missile attack spells against Greaters – runes collected from Darkwizards and Aubury's shop)
70 Cooking (I prefer not burning fish!)
53 Woodcutting (just a little bit of nostalgia)
50 Firemaking (I tried a bit of cooking on the Karamja docks, but now it's not worth the trouble with high cooking)
52 Crafting (the slowest skill I think! At least I've got Strength Amulets now, but 70 seems unobtainable)
58 Smithing (gained a little by smithing gold bars, I don't think an adamantite shield is in my future)
64 Mining (I've been enjoying mining/superheat-smelting/smithing/high-alching steel in the Dwarven Mines!)
4x XP rate is hard, yet obtainable. I can't understand why anyone would want to go back to 1x XP rate (looking at you, popular RSC servers). What sets this server apart in my mind is the static 4x XP (no boosting, no funny business) and the true vanilla F2P world.
